How to get candle wax out of a dress shirt?
Question:
Answers:
Beeswax melts at a low temp & I suppose candle wax would too.
At the risk of ruining the shirt, heat up some water to about 160 "F" {water boils at 212 F} and sink the waxy spot below water, with something that has a long handle, and hold it. After about 5 minutes or maybe more the wax should rise to the top of the water.
Repeat if necessary.
P. S. I wouldn't try it if it's a silk shirt, bring it to the closest dry cleaners shop.
Take Several sheets of Paper Towel and place the soiled part of the shirt on top. Cover with several more layers of paper towel and run a warm iron over it. Repeat this several times until you get as much as you can out. Then launder the shirt in hot soapy water either by hand or in your washer, it should remove the remainder of the wax.
put a brown paper bag under the wax and one over the wax and iron the bag over the area. The wax should absorb into the bag.
This has worked in the past...but I can't give you any guarantees! Try it though! Place some brown paper over the wax patch and place a hot iron over the paper. The wax will melt and come off easily. Wash/dry clean. Another option is to put an ice-cube on the 'stain' and harden the wax even further, then using a blunt knife 'lift' off the wax...launder/dry clean. Good luck!
If your shirt is cotton or a cotton blend this works well.
Put the shirt on your ironing surface (board or table) so that the wax is facing you. Put brown paper (such as from a paper bag) or a paper towel over the wax. Set your iron to a fairly hot setting and make little circles where the wax is. Keep the iron moving and move the paper frequently (fire prevention!) until the paper absorbs no more wax. Wash as usual, and if there is any dye in the wax you might use a dab of bleach (I figured the shirt was white) to help remove the dye stain.
