Formula for getting the smell out of the washing machine?

Question:I know people suggest bleach, oxy-clean, vinegar, baking soda, etc. But what's the most effective one and how do you do it?

ie. 1 cup bleach in a full wash cycle with hot water only, without clothes, etc.? What best worked for you?

Answers:
one C bleach in hot water, no garments, wash cycle, rinse and spin should do it;
bleach kills bacteria

I have found that AMMONIA is the best thing to get rid of odors. You can add it to your laundry and just use a little less detergent than usual.
run it without any clothes in it and put bleach! that should work or pine-sol
Dump a small box of baking soda into a rinse cycle, with a load of towels, it will help scrub the tub, and make the towels very soft after they're dried. Remember to also clean the inside of the lid, especially around the hinges. Leave the lid up once in a while so the whole thing can air out.
