How do i get oil stains off my wood deck?
Question:my dog got a hold of a quart of engine oil got the cap off and splilled and tracked oil all over my wood deck
Answers:
Oh yuck! Okay, first remove any that is still sitting on the deck---you might even try putting some kitty litter on it to soak up as much as possible. Next step, coca-cola. Yep, good old coke will get rid of motor oil stains from all kinds of stuff---concrete, asphalt, clothing. Wood decks are going to be a little toughter because wood is so porous. Pour some on and let it sit for a while. Blot it off. Repeat as often as necessary. Hopefully that will remove most of it. Then buy a good deck cleaner and use a pressure washer to remove any oily residue. I actually had a similar problem a couple of years ago----my son tracked glops of used motor oil onto my wooden wraparound porch---and a neighbor shared the Coke trick. It really did work!
Oil Stain Removal from Wood Deck
You should be able to remove vegetable oil stains from your wood deck by washing the stained area with mineral spirits. If that does not seem to be working, you could also try Naptha. Depending on the finish on the deck, you could also use paint thinner, but try this on a non-visible area first to ensure that it would damage the finish.
Maybe it would work for your oil.
Maybe try pressure washing it. If you get a good one they work great for almost anything.
First use a degreaser on the surface, then add lemon cleaner to assist in cutting the deeper oiled area. then regular cleaning of entire deck this should bring it back to all same lovely luster. Good luck
