Induction cooking hobs?
Question:does anyone use one - are they any good?
Answers:
Pans for induction hobs DON'T cost twice as much as normal pans - they just need to be made from a ferrous metal, i.e. a magnet will stick to them. Induction hobs use magnetic currents to heat the contents of a pan with no residual heat loss around it. This means you could put a piece of chocolate near the pan and it wouldn't melt. They are more expensive to buy, but use about half as much electricity as an electric hob and are more effective in heat transfer, achieving an absolute efficiency of 84% in tests compared to about 40% for a gas hob. They are sleek looking and easy to clean, and most have features that sense when the pan is going to boil over, and turn down the heat accordingly. On the negative side, don't bother with one if you do a lot of wok cooking.
not as good as gas if you like cooking. pans for induction hobs cost twice as much as normal..
I have a small table top induction hob which takes one pan. I use it in preference to my usual cooker.
I can set temperature and time, which is very useful, making it very economical to use.
You do need to use pans will bases that attract magnets and it does not work with pans with very small bases... Kay
