My does the en-suite in my newbuild apartment smell 'fusty'?

Question:I have recently moved in to a newly-built second floor apartment. I have noticed a funny smell that drifts from the very small internal en-suite bathroom with shower. I have done the thorough clean and bleach thing, have 1001'd the carpets but no luck. It's a kind of stale, fusty smell (the kind that one usually relates to stagnant water.) But trying to identify the precise source is difficult as every 'nose' inspection the drain and toilet bowl, shower etc smell fine. I still suspect the carpet but having sniffed every conceivable area have drawn a blank. This has been going on for a couple of weeks. I have only used the en-suite once or twice and the smell was not there when I moved in. I would be happy just to know exactly where it is coming from before I start dismantling things. I have not used the en-suite in 10 days now but still the smell comes and goes. Just when you think it has disappeared you get a whiff of it again. Anybody out there in similar boat? Can anyone suggest what it might be? The room has its' own automatic extractor as it has window. Any advice would be appreciated.

Answers:
The smell is probably due to decomposing soap somewhere
(maybe a small leak behind panels or soapy water splashed in a corner)
But the MOST LIKELY place is a small section of the sealant around the shower that is not adhering = =
= = Especially at the BOTTOM CORNER where the tiling meets the shower tray. = =
This is caused by the small shinkage in new buildings that is due to drying out
- Many Litres of water are used in the construction which dry out when the heating is switched on.(Also causes condensation in other rooms if not ventilated enough.)
If this the case then sealant should be cut out ,surfaces cleaned and dryed and new sealant applied > A Job for the Builder under maintainance warranty.
If not from there, the builder should investigate further before damage is caused in your apartment or the one below !

Try lifting the carpet and have a look to see if its wet, this could be the cause as was in my case, then put say Mr Muscle down the plug hole and that will clear any smells coming from there.
What is fusty?
Do you have a proper flush on the loo or does the waste have to go through a "Sani-flo" type sysytem? We have one of those and it doesn't seem to matter how much I clean or disinfectant, etc I use, the en-suite always smells a bit odd. It's as if waste water just sits there. You end up flushing at least two or three times.
well i know what you mean. strip everything back out i now its an ordeal then get a bowl of warm water use a small bottle of lemon juice add to about a pint warm water in bucket then rinse cloth in that and on your cloth dab on bicarbonate soda clean everything in bathroom even floor like this and the two items should get rid of any odours
I'd follow the advice of the people above.
I just wanted to tell you that you might want to consider getting rid of the carpet. Bathrooms and carpets don't usually work. We used to have an en-suite with carpet and it was a nightmare. It stank all the time and there was always mould on it...
