I am doing laundry for money, mainly bedding and towels and need to know what is a fair price to charge?
Question:I do the washing and ironing of duvets and pillowcases and tumble dry towels, I cannot get my head round electricity charges!! having a really blonde day - can any one help? currently I ask for 5.00 for a single bed set and 8.00 for a double set, towels are 5.75 per pair they are huge and fluffy!!
Do you think this is fair?
Thanks for your help and advice

I don't really know - you will have to take into account all your costs (electricity, washing powder, delivery, collection, ironing time perhaps)
Best I can suggest is look at what the local launderette charges and what other people doing similar service charge then decide if you can do it for same, less or more.
If you already have paying customers they obviously think its an ok charge.
If you are more expensive than others what do you do that they don't - ie fabric freshener - smells good, collection and delivery (your costs for petrol etc.)
Good Luck
try charging by the weight since heavier items take longer to dry requiring more elecricity
yeh that is reasonable, if your not bothered about making a profit.
I suggest £6.50 for a single bed. £10.00 for a double bed.
£6.00 for towels.
Therfore you will be making a profit.
And yes electricity does cost a bit so you need to consider that too.
Are you living in Manhattan?? Even so this is a very steep price..I get my laundry picked up/delivered, very nicely folded for .75 a lb!
If you are ironing duvet covers/sheets as well as laundering them then the 8.00 for a double set is more than fair
a fari way to decide the cost would be to take the cost of the detergent and then figure out how much it is for the electricity and then add 6% (so you are making money) that's how the figure out the price where i live in the world of hand crafted jewlery but it would work with most any thing
some places charge by the pound. $.50 per pound. Others charge by load. If you go to laundry mat its around 1.50 to get the washer started and 1.50 more for dryer. Then you would add on your time for ironing and folding. $10/hr. If it takes you 15 minutes to to iron and fold a set you charge 2.50 + 3=5.50 for a set. Get two sets per load and you're getting $11/load. Dont sound like much. But depending on cost of living and where you live people might pay what your now asking...I wouldnt...but some might.
$3.50 a load.
Where I live laundry services charge by the pound 1.99 usually the rate..b/c heavier takes longer to dry use more electricity.
We have a local place the weight the wash WET and the charges accordingly and of course the cost of electricity will play in your amount also i would say 80 to 100 per pound WET
work out how much it costs you, maintenace of machines, running costs and also tangiable goods ie the powders and softners you use etc etc , divide your igure by each item you use and add a profit on of whatever you want! good luck blondie!! do it when ou are in the mood to work out figures
