I Need Help To Get Rid Of MOTHBALL Smell..?
Question:I bought a dresser at a garage sale, someone put mothballs in the drawers. How do i get the smell out? I tryed spraying them with air freshers with no luck. Can someone please help.
Answers:
Spray the inside of the dresser and drawers with white vinegar. This will absorb the odor.
You might try Fridge It- a natural carbon odor absorber that you just stick in the drawers. They work really well. They only cost about $2 and you can find them at Linens N Things, WalMart and Camping World.
The only thing that I know of that will get rid of the odor is leaving it open, and lots of time. Camphor is very volatile, and it literally "soaks" into the wood over time. Putting the drawers in a place where you can run a fan (maybe in a garage, or on a patio) for a couple of days might help.
Good luck!
take the drawers outside in the sunlight and fresh air.it may take a few days...they may have put a bunch in it to cover up the scent of mustiness .so be patient...fresh air is the only thing that I have found works.a little baking soda might speed up the process but I doubt it..Naphtha( the chemical you are smelling can be toxic to birds, pets and people in large quantities without proper ventilation
Sun Sun Sun! It is the only thing. Then after you do get rid of the smell get some cotton balls and put either some essential oils or your favorite perfume/cologne on them and place them around in the drawers they will smell yummy!
air the drawers out, try putting boxes of baking soda in each drawer. they will absorb odor.
stick them outside in your yard for a few days (bring them in if it rains) to air out.throw in a few air freshners (all the same scen of course....it will take a little while ( fyi in my dresser now i stick the scented perfume adds from magazines in them makes the dresser smell sooo good
