What is a good way to clean couch cushions?
Question:I can take the covers off and wash them but I want to clean the sponge. I have young children so everything has been spilled on them and I am worried about the germs and possibly mold?
Answers:
I had the same issue about 6 months ago, so I removed the cover and the batting from the sponge part. I have a large front load wash machine at home and I put them in one at a time on a gentle cycle and they came out great.
I have the dryer with drying shelves and put them in there on low to dry but on a nice day you could prop them up outside.
Just make sure they are good and dry before you put on the cover. Mine turned out great.
I would take the covers to a dry cleaner, and when returned, spray them with Scotch Guard.
Small spills can be cleaned with vinegar and water. This method will remove any odor.
Rent a Rug Doctor at the local grocery or see if there is a carpet and upholstery cleaner available for self hire, they are really easy to use and do a terrific job. Good Luck!
Hire a carpet and upholstery company to come in and clean them. Most places will give you a quote for free.
Vacuum them well and spray with a disinfectant. If there stained not much you can do. You can try using soapy water in a spray bottle and spray. Then towel dry either bolting or wiping. I hope that helps.
Hi Sam,
Been there, done that !
What I did was rent an Easy-Off Machine at the
grocery store. It works wonders !
I rented it on a Friday night and got busy on Saturday,
I even did my rugs.
Hugs,
