How do you wash wool pants?

Question:

Answers:
Dry clean only I'm afraid. I washed mine in cold and hung them to dry and they still shrunk.

I know it's not what you wanted to hear, but it's the truth. Wash them and they will shrink.

I haven't tried any of those Dryel or home dry clean things. You might try that.

Very carefully, unless the material was preshrunk or you don't like the pants take them to a cleaners. If you are determined, use cold water, don't wring them out, air dry. Sometimes it works.
The best thing is DON'T! Safer to have them dry cleaned. It's tooo easy to shrink wool, but if you want to try:Be sure you use cold, I repeat, cold water, and a soap especially for wool such as Woolite, don't wring them if you wash by hand. If you wash in a machine, use special cycle, and drip dry. Hope this helps. Whatever you do, don't put wool in a drier, or you will have something that will fit a 2 year old! Hope this helps
I have washed a few wool items carefully on cold and the gentle cycle and they still shrunk! Don't wash them. Wear them until they are "dirty" and then take to a Dry Cleaner Only!! I learned the hard way. It's cheaper to have them cleaned than to have to replace them.
Take them to the cleaners. They can clean them properly.

Wool should never be washed at home because you run the risk of ruining them. Wool fiber is covered in scales, very much like a fish...those scales, under agitation, moisture, and heat, lock into each other and FELT. So the wool item shrinks dramatically and can develop spots that look matted. Only treated wool can be washed at home. This "washable wool" has been treated with a finish that coats and seals those scales so they don't lock into each other.

If you must wash them at home, do so VERY carefully. Don't wring the pants, or swish them around a whole lot. Use a mild detergent like Woolite that is easy to wash out. Then lay flat to dry. Ironing them will at least be easy because wool shapes easily.
old dryer cleaner trick. ( grandparents own one) .. WOOLITE.. in cold water by hand & hang dry. My gram use to wash my "pea coat" which was wool w/ it. That way u don't get the chemicals in it.

if u use cold/cool water... by hand... & ether hang to dry or block it to dry... it will shrink some but nothing like doing it in the washer.
