How to make a new house feel like my own?
Question:I am about to move into a house that was owned by someone else in my family until he died five years ago. The house has sat untouched since then and now I am moving in. How can I make the place feel like home and become comfortable there?
Answers:
Have a party! Invite Friends & Family. Grill, if you'ld like. Prepare some things inside. Especially dessert! This could also be a 'Thank You for helping me Pack & Move' party. Your home doesn't have to be perfect to have guest over who know & love you. The detailed decor & placement of items will come as you live in your new home.
My daughter recently moved into a new place, I spent the night and made a pancake breakfast in the morning. "Smelt like home". Then, we washed dishes and pans and shined her sink. Elbow bumping and chatting along the way. "Felt like Home".
My answer: Friends, Food & Laughter! Have fun, girl.
Clean, clean, clean, and then buy all new linens. You wouldn't believe how towels, sheets, curtains, etc... will reflect your personality.
Open the windows and air it out.. Give the house a nice good cleaning... Maybe, try some paint on the walls or some wallpaper... The skies the limit I would imagine..! Maybe hang some picture's of family/friends... That sort of thing... Once you get your stuff in you should feel at home. Good luck and be well.
The first thing I do, is get the TV up and running and just turn it on, even if you're not watching it. The familiar sounds of Heraldo will do wonders or the bass transitions during Seinfeld episodes...Dhereher Dherhe Deerher.
lst off.. paint... putting in u'r colors would help. Then start adding u'r OWN touches & likes. what is u'r style? Look at u'r things... esp. for diff. rooms... pick 1-3 colors & put either 1or2 on wall w/ 3rd being accent or... prints or designs.. pillows etc... Photos... prints. Once u start doing this.. it will become more & more like YOUR home. Yeah, the memories may always b there... but make it good memories... IF u have pix of this person, put that up as well esp. in a room that u rmbr that they enjoyed. Put some of that person things around the pix... that way u won't feel sad.
hope that helps.
add your own little touches to it .sit back and imagine yourself already in your house ,pretend you are taking a hot bath in the house.
hang your pictures on the wall and sleep in every room.
Clean every inch of your new house. Then burn some sage...it clears out old stagnant energy. Then fill your home with house plants..they do make a huge difference
I would clean it from head to toe and then paint! Freshen up the whole house and decorate it to your liking. That will make it home to you.
I recently married and moved in to my husbands house and it still does not feel like home to me. I dont have very many of my own things in it, but I am gradually working on it.
Once your scent is in the house, and your belongings, it will feel like home
Usually when me and my family move into a house the walls are all white...like asylum white we paint the walls a peachy pinkish color and feel like were back at our old home.
