What should I do?
Question:About a year ago, I helped a woman move from her townhome to an apartment in another state. When I walked into the townhome for the first time, I couldn't believe my eyes, there was stuff scattered about the floor and it was about a foot deep. I actually went in there with a shovel and a garbage can and literally dug my way down to the carpet. She had put dirty dishes in the dishwasher, and never bothered to turn it on, when I looked in there, the dishes were growing stuff. It took me a month of cleaning to find the stuff to move.
The woman just called me, she is being evicted from the apartment. Probably because the apartment is beginning to look the way the townhome looked. She has 30 days to move.
She called me to ask if I would drive out (3 hours one-way) and help her pack, she'll pay my travel expenses and for the time I work. I really don't feel like doing the garbage can and shovel thing again, but she really doesn't have anyone else to help.
I'm torn, should I go out there?
Answers:
No matter your good intentions, you could get sick doing this. I would come up with some really good excuse (even if you have to lie) and get her some help from her local health dept. The woman sounds really sick in the head. This could go on and on and on, each place she lives.Next time she may ask to move in with you.
You no doubt would be blessed for helping her out, gear up, and you will never regret it, you reap what you sew
It sounds like the lady needs help in other ways. Are you in a position to find out why she is living like this, and why she is needing to move so often? Does she have family to assist? Perhaps a church group could help her? If you're doing it only for money and don't know the lady then I would kindly decline.
