Tips on how to make the trash can smell better..?
Question:My trash can stinks really bad after only one day of putting trash in it. We have one that has a lid but everytime you open it the stinky smell comes out and its awful! anyone have any tips on how they keep their trash can smelling better??

Simple, Use simple green. Great stuff environmentally safe around animals. or children. Nice smell. Also empty more often! Use good bags, not the cheap dollar store ones... Good Luck.

yes i own and operate a cleaning bussiness and this is what i do for my clients i wash trash can out with bleach , dry it out real good then add a fabric freshner sheet into it then the trash bag you could also add the fabric softner sheet in to the bag its self works real good
Empty it more often. My trash can never smells and I don't clean or do anything to it but take the trash out.
Wash it.
Next time you empty it wash it with bleach. You probably, like the rest of us, have spilled something or torn the bag and gotten some delightful organic material into the can.
Many things work to freshen your trash can. I bought some generic ($1.00/16oz) aftershave. Lysol, car air freshener, organic oils, dryer sheets, any store-bought air freshener...

yea wash it out on a weekly,biweekly,or monthly basis. use bleach and comet. and don't for get the lid. If it's real bad hit it up at the car wash the first time
There are some pretty nicely scented trashbags around. Might try one of those.
Wash often, put a box of baking soda and some sort of air freshener.
I use Lysol Disinfectant that eliminates odors. The 'Antibacterial Action' kind.
Also if you put food debris in the trash can, you will have to empty it every day.
I use a separate bucket for my food scraps and put them in my special backyard compost that I created.
If you can not do that then you need to take your trash out each day and put it into a bigger garbage can with a sealed lid on it.until the garbage people come for it.

I wash mine regularly with either lysol or bleach and put a stick up on the inside or the under side of the lid.Just make sure it doesnt fall..

We don't keep a trash can inside...our's is sitting outside and when we have something to throw away, it immediately goes into it's correct bin/can. One for food, one for plastic, one for paper, one for cans, and one for stuff that doesn't fit in those categories. But if you have to have one inside, then put some orange peels in the bottom of it. Also, my mom uses a plastic lined, cloth laundry bag in the trash can in her kitchen. It prevents leakage, and is completely washable in the machine. She uses orange peels also, or sometimes fresh mint leaves, and changes them weekly.
