New button-down shirt?

Question:I bought a new long sleeve button-down dress shirt (cotton, white w/ brown stripes) - do I need to wash it before wearing it for the first time? Also, the tag just says to wash gently. Should I put it in the washing machine by itself in cold water and then hang on a plastic hanger to dry? And then am I supposed to iron it? never ironed anything before...

Then to store it do I leave it on a hangar or am I supposed to fold it up all tidy like you buy it in the store? how do I do that, anyways...

I don't have much experience with shirts that aren't T-shirts.. thanks in advance!

What a cute question ! :)

Definitely wash any item of clothing before you wear it...well...except suits and stuff like that. (You know what I mean.)

You can wash it by itself or with white t-shirts. No colored items !
I always wash my clothes in cold water, so yes...cold water.

You can dry it in the dryer on low heat or hang it on a hanger and air dry it.
If you dry it in the dryer, take it out promptly when it is almost dry and the ironing job is pretty effortless.
You'll see when and if you dry it iin a dryer.
It is probably permanent press so it will reqiure little to no ironing at all.

You can store it on a hanger and put it in your closet.
Don't fold it back up or put it in a drawer because then you WILL have to iron it again.

btw...Your shirt sounds very snazzy. :)))

My suggestion to you - if you don't have Mom or someone to show you ... get it pressed at a dry cleaner.

That will save your shirt and cost $2 or less.

Yes, you should have it done before you wear it - the creases are in the wrong places.

No, leave it on a nice hangar - don't fold it all up (it will get those weird creases again!)

Best of luck!
yea dude wash it. put it on delecate cycle and wash it with a towel. or have it dry cleaned. buy a bag for dress shirts and hang it in the closet.I never leave my shirts or pants in the dry cleaning bags. if you do sometimes you have a chemical smell but not often.
