What is the best polish for antique table with modern finish that has been heavily used? Cost no issue.?

Question:

Answers:
Without stripping and restaining, try linseed oil.

Polish is used for cleaning antique furniture though not for long term care and certainly not prevention. Polishes clean but also leave a film that creates a short-term shine. Some wood cleaners include orange oil and products by General Finishes (blue hue) among others. Wipe off any orange oil afterward or it too will may leave a film.

Protect your table from wear with wax, rather than a polish and it'll have a reflective glow for decades, rather than months. Wax will protect from ring marks left by beverages (white and black marks) and some heat resistance from a hot pan. Polishes have no protective features and create finish buildup on the furniture that provides you a glow. There are many fine furniture waxes available and they go on much like a car wax. Wipe on clear wax and rub on the surface, then wipe off the excess with a rag. The piece will dry within a day depending on heat and ventialtion but the table need not be avoided after applying. Wipe off the excess in strokes along with the wood grain one more time after a couple days once the finish hardens more. Wax will provide the glow of a polish, fill in some of the (scratches) wear from the heavy use, and prevent further scrathes and wear.

Many antique stores carry such wax and it's readily available. Look for antique wax or furniture wax at under $15 for enough to do a house full of furniture. Additional furniture care tips at oldwoodmarket.com
