Rust stains on clothes?

Question:I have a newer washer and dryer about 3 years old. i also have well water and a water softner. For about the past month i've noticed i'm getting what looks like rust stains on my clothes. Does anyone know why this would be happening? Like i said, i have a water softner (we change the filters regularly) i also have a clorinator (to get rid of the sulfer in our water) we take care of all the filters and everything like we should. any ideas? Are the clothes ruined or can the stains be removed?

Answers:
Not sure how to stop it, but you can get the rust stains out by soaking in lemon juice and then sprinkling salt on the stain. Set outside in the sun until it dries and then brush off the salt. The rust should be gone. If not, repeat. This has worked on every rust stain I've ever had, even on items that had already been washer/dried.

sand paper the rust spots in your washer if you find some, then get some vinegar, that should take out the rust spots.
good luck.
Iron is the problem, and maybe your water softener is not tackling this problem. Also, with iron rich water, bleach will tend to make whites look a little pink in color.
YOU NEED A PRE FILTER BEFORE THE SOFTENER TO TAKE OUT THE RUST...IT WILL FOUL YOUR SOFTENER...

USE IRON OUT ( HOME DEPOT ) IN YOU SOFTENER DURING MANUAL RECHARGE, & IN TH WASH TO REMOVE RUST STAINS ( TOILETS TOO )
I can tell you that if you have dried your clothes after you washed them nothing is going to get those stains out. Make sure if you see anything like this after washing to not dry them. Drying sets the stain. Having said that, I would say it's the iron in your water or someone dropped a rusted screw or in my case a rusted slug LOL.. Don't ask! Ok I'll tell you, A slug is a disc of metal similar to a quarter that the newspaper people use to open the newspaper boxes to put the papers in everyday..
