What is the point of mopping?
Question:the floor is one of those laminated wood thingies, where it's wood and then its got a thick plastic coating over it. i just don't understand mopping on it. the only thing its good for is getting stains off the floor. if there's any dirt, it just spreads it into a thin muddy paste over the floor, causing me more work. most dirt and other crap i can sweep off with a broom. there's some stuff i can't get off, and when i scrub at the floor with the mop it still won't come clean. if i put a lot of water on the floor to soak it, my mom yells at me because i'm not supposed to make big puddles. am i just a failure at mopping or is there some secret, that makes it worthwhile? becasue it seems to me only spot-mopping to get stains off a floor is worth it.

Think of it this way. Do you like to go barefoot? Do you like athletes foot? You wash floors to get rid of germs. No your not going to eat off the floor, but you do need to keep them clean. When a floor is clean, it makes the sweeping easier. I have a laminated wood floor, and when the sun hits it, and it's not clean you can see everything. Dust, animal hairs, etc. Take pride in your home. It's the only one you have.
Mop the floor with a bucket of water to which a cleaning product has been added.
Then use a bucket of clear water to rinse it with a clean mop.
You're using too much water. I know this sounds like a lot more trouble to do, but use a bucket of water with Pine Sol added and use an old cloth that has been well wrung out. Once you get all the stains out you can usually get by with just "dust" mopping for the next little while.
the reason you mop is to remove bacteria that sweeping and vaccuming wont do. if you are just spreading muddy water over the floor use a 2nd bucket of plain water to rinse the mop and soapy water to apply after you rinse it should help.
USE Murphy's oil soap. It's made for wood. Wring your mop or cloth out really well.
the point to moping is to get the dirt up that the broom or vacum cleaner dont get and also to help control germs from various thing like feet, pets ectra. if you are having trouble with your mop pushing the dirt around then i think you need to do an old fashiond cleaning on your floor. take a bucket of water and use a half cup of vingar in it.some times when you use name brand cleaners they put a film on the floor.then do a hand washing.this will get the dirt and grim off that you are pushing around and also you will be able to control the amount of water you are putting on the floor.i know you said it is a laminated floor but you still don't want to have it very wet. i do alot of cleaning for other peaple and they were doing the same thing you are doing and there floor looked like you say your floor looked. i started cleaning there floor like this and now it has its shine back and you dont see were you moped.as far as the markes try using a erasing pad. i would only try a spot that you cant see first. some times they will leave a dull spot. so like i said just try a small area first befor you do it where you can see it.i think after you do this it will make your cleaning of the floor much easier. if you still want to use a mop then get one that you can ring out yourself that way you can control how wet it is. sponge mops tend to hold alot of water in them. good luck, hope this makes your floor look great.
Laminates and hardwood floors don't need to be mopped in the traditional way (with bucket and mop) they should be damp mopped with a microfiber mop or a light spritz of cleaners sprayed and immediately wiped up with a Sh-mop (flat board mop) either of these 2 methods will clean the floors with minimal use of any liquids.
You can't use too much water on a laminate wood floor. It will raise the surface right off. Try a swiffer wet sweeper and go back and forth with that. Broom sweep before swiffering the floor. If all else fails, get down on your hands and knees with a spray bottle and paper towels and wipe up the dirt spraying a small section and cleaning it with the towels as you go. Regular cleaning makes it easier the next time it needs to be done.
Depends on if you have stains and stuff, wood floors don't need to be washed if they are just dusty or have animal hair on it. I use a vaccume instead of a broom, this gets more dirt out of any cracks the a broom may not. If you do wash it use manufacturing method, as this is the best way. Too much water may damage the floor if it makes it way through the cracks.
