Why does my washing machine shake like crazy and move across the floor? It causes my whole house to vibrate!?
Question:It's only 10 years old, so I was wondering if it could be fixed??
Answers:
It's probably just unbalanced. If it does this with every load, see if you can adjust the way it's sitting... sometimes it helps to move it just a little, some washing machines sit on (very short) legs you can adjust, or try just putting a coaster underneath like you could do if a table wobbled.
Usually it happens when your load of laundry is unbalanced. Is it happening all of the time or just with this load? Try redistributing the wet laundry in the drum.
If it is happening all of the time, it might be because something has broken off of the wash tub which has caused it to become unbalanced. 10 years is a good life for a washing machine, I am sure there are more energy efficient ones on the market now. If you can't afford to replace it, you might call an appliance repair tech to take a look at it.
is it balanced?
Maybe your washing machine is overloaded. Try a smaller load and see if that helps.
It sounds like it is unbalanced. Pick up the front two legs and drop them as hard as you can (seriously). The little legs adjust so this will make them even.
There is a "foot" at each corner on the bottom of your washer. It is like a round flat piece on a screw. Check to see if your washer wobbles when you push on it. If the washer rocks or wobbles, you can adjust the "foot knobs" so that your washer does not wobble. It should not move if you have adjusted those feet correctly. They turn. Have a friend hold the washer up as you turn each "foot knob". You just have to experiment until the washer feels solid.
The only other reason your washer vibrates like crazy is that you haven't adjusted the clothes so they are evenly distributed. Sometimes there are heavy things all on one side. Take them and move them around so they are evenly distributed. Towels are notorious for getting out of balance in the washing machine, causing it to go crazy.
Is it off balance when you run it? By that I mean are the clothes inside distributed evenly? If not, I know it shakes and vibrates something fierce. When I do a big load of bath towels or the bathroom rugs and they all wind up on one side, it feels like the house is going shake off of the foundation. I just open the top and move things around until it spins evenly. Sometimes it takes a few tries...
Hope that helps!!
sometime this happens because your load is unbalanced or your washer has thrown a weight, however one other reason is maybe your washer is unlevel, if it is then just relevel it by screwing or unscrewing the feet abit
