Question:Noticed a bad smell in the washing machine.Emptied filted and it had some stale water in it.But seen fluff build up in hard to reach areas inside the drum.Is there any way or tips of washing this to get rid of the smells. Thanks
Answers:
Put some washing powder in with a small amount of bleach, then put it on a hot wash with nothing in the machine that should do it.
Ok check this link out: http://housekeeping.about.com/od/laundry...
I hope this helps?
You could try running a wash (empty of clothes) with some bleach in the dispenser drawer.
Also, make sure your filter is clean - my washing maching wasn't draining propely last week and I cleaned it (disgusting job by the way) and it's fine now.
Buy soda crystals put a cupful in the machine run it on a hot wash and that should do the trick...they are cheap enough in the supermarket...dont waste money on these expensive cleaners nothing works as good as the crystals!
Leave the drum empty, then add your wash powder to the draw, and a little bleach to the softener draw.Put on a high temp wash, then do this again with no powder or bleach to make sure the machine is free of bleach.
Try running a normal or heavy duty cycle without any clothes just use bleach and detergent. After the washing machine stops check for the smell. Do it again without the bleach. Repeat if necessary. Also leave the door open after washing, that should keep the smell from coming back.
first take windex and spray the whole thing. wait for one minute and start scrubbing. then to get the smell out keep on scrubbing on that spot and use the freshner thing to help you.
I swear by the following stuff get it in any of the supermarkets ie Tescos, you get 10 doses, its about £3 and does an excellent job.
BUSTER
SINK
FRESH
Kitchen Sink Fresh's granules foam up and cling to clean your whole pipe, removing food debris, grease and limescale whilst the powerful bactericides kill germs and smells. Sinks are left clean, fresh and stain free with the fragrance of eucalyptus and camphor. Use at least once a week to stop build up and nasty smells.
Directions for Use. Kitchen Sink Fresh can be used on sinks, waste disposal units, washing machines and dishwashers - from a simple sprinkle to a full sparkle! (see bottle for full directions for use and always follow the safety instructions)
Its in a green bottle.
Do you live in a hard water area - what you are seeing could be hard water deposits - you can buy calgon tablets at Tesco's. You need to use them with most washes to stop it building up again.
Um, turn it on?
Are you sure the smell is from the washing machine itself. It could be that the drain hose which is connected to the sink waste probably does not have a U trap to isolate the lower drains with a water barrier so you are getting drain smell coming into your washing machine via the waste pipe.Usually the normal running of a machine flushes all the pipes out, both inlet and outlet . I know a small amount of water remains in the machine, but for how long? You don't leave it a week or more between machine loads do you?Try disconnecting the drain hose from the stand pipe into which it empties. Some just push in and there are no clips or screws Others might have a connector you have to undo. Smell the drainpipe. Is it the same nasty smell ?It might mean the plumbing may have to be altered a bit.to the drain pipe. You could try pouring a bit of bleach down the stand pipe I might take some of the smell away.
Yes, just use one cup of White Vinegar added to the wash cycle no added clothes, use hot water, Vinegar will clean out the residues left behind from the detergents and hard water deposits, will clean hoses and other parts, freshens and disinfects. Vinegar has been touted as being the best dsinfectant in the world, this should be done once or twice weekly to keep your machine clean and fresh. Good Luck !
1. Get bag of washing soda from Asda/Tesco's
2. Clean the filter.
3. Clean the Soap dispenser
4. Put whole bag of soda in machine
5. Set to very hot wash, do wash
6. Will clear rancid soap grease which is causing smell.
Put the washer on a 90 degree wash without anything inside the drum.
The smell is usually a build up of washing powder stuck on the outside of the drum.
This should remove any debris/fluff too.
This happened to me. It drove me mad!
I used everything, from bleach to boil washing, but in the end I poured a whole bottle of white vinegar in the drum and then put a long wash on with the drum empty, which did the trick.
Make sure you leave the door ajar in future when you are not using the machine.
You have gotten some good answers. My self I would fill the washer on the large load (but no clothes) with hot water, put 1Cup of baking soda into the water. When it is full pour 1/4 cup of white vinegar. Be sure the you put in the soda powder first, then the vinegar at the end. It will clean anything out of there and the hoses too.
You may want to try a cup of bleach with a half of cup of laundry detergent. Put the load on medium and make sure it's on hot! When the rinse cycle is on make sure you add a half cup of bleach with half cup of laundry detergent. That will do it and it will also get rid of any smells!
my mum used to dilute some bleach, put it in the drawer then set the machine away on a 40 degree wash with an empty drum.
run a hot water cycle with a cup of vinegar
I have done this many of times- I put a cup of backing soda in the washing machine and let it run by it's slef. Backing soda is a natural odor eater.
i have the same problem if you find out let me know
