Roach infested apartment. Should I leave the furniture behind too?
Question:I moved into a disgusting roach infested apartment. Of course we didnt notice them at first, because they're german roaches, (so they are small) they only came out at 3 am (before the infestation got too bad, now they are out all the time) We have done everything in our power to get rid of them, even had the exterminator out a few times. Not even a slight improvement. Well anyways, theyre in every room now, including the closets. The dilemma is that were moving soon, and I dont want the raoches to follow us. Should I get rid of all the furniture and stuff that would be hard to rid of roaches, or should I try and bomb it? Were moving into a newly built home, so I dont want to take even a SLIGHT risk that we could take the raoches with us. I want to leave this nightmare behind. So...to leave or not to leave? Also, can I milk anything out of the land lord for this?

You should negotiate with your landlord to pay ALL of the costs for your move. My suggestion is do not take the furniture, once infested always infested. Do not bring your moving boxes into your home. Wash everything as your remove it from the apartment and pack it in the truck this includes the bottoms of all of your shoes and your clothes and bathroom items. Do NOT take any unnecessary cardboard boxes from inside the house. This includes cereal boxes. Put everything into plastic ziploc bags. Wipe off canned food as well. Any wood and metal furniture and mattresses you can take but I suggest putting it all in your driveway, covering it with a tarp and bombing it anyway. Have an exterminator do preventative treatment before you move into your new place too. If the landlord doesn't want to pony up (of course this is assuming you complained about this in the first place) then take him to small claims court for your moving expenses and replacement of any household items that you left behind. PS You should really turn them in to your local Housing Authority as well.
Bomb just before you more and put out many Combat roach baits in the new place.
When you put things in the truck set off several BOMBS inside the truck. Close the dooor and leave it set for several hours. If you take two loads make sure you do it for both.
Before that get BORIC ACID and sprinkle it all over. It will quickly kill a lot of them. it won't harm you or your things but will kill the roaches.
I would just leave the furniture there if there is just one egg or one roach the next place will be infested.
You will never get all the eggs out of all your furniture even with professional cleaning. I am not sure about the landlord thing but he might state that you brought them in. Those little buggers will follow you.
I have been in your situation before and it sucks!! I left all of the kitchen appliances (ie toaster, microwave, etc) behind and bought new ones when I moved. As far as the furniture goes, you can probably take that with you to your new place, but check it before you do! The roaches can be hidden. Also, check your tv and other electronics because roaches can get inside of there.
Leave it! The possible infestation is not worth hassle.
Half the time I work in a poultry house. We have those nasty german roaches. The time, effort and cost of spraying doesn't kill them off fast enough.
Roaches seem to be immune to a LOT of the commercial sprays and "bombs" you can purchase.the reason you could never get rid of the roaches before was that when apartment owners call an extermination company, they do maybe one apartment at a time over a day or two or more... by the time they go from apartment A to apartment D, those crafty little critters have found their way to the first apartment where the sprays won't hurt them after a day or two. EVERY APARTMENT would have to be treated at the same time in order to rid the entire place of the little buggers. These things get into your clothes, your furniture, behind your STOVE and Refrigerators... they are EVERYWHERE---if you move a couch, they are more then likely going to be INSIDE the couch.. your best bet would be to call a REPUTABLE COMMERCIAL and RESIDENTIAL pest control company---such as ORKIN to ask how best to make sure you don't risk carrying the little UNINVITED GUESTS into your new home. you get just ONE cockroach in the new place and you will have an infestation in no time.
Just leave anything that is hard to clean (including the microwave and stove, they love those places) and before you move do what another person said about bombing the truck. Wash all of your bedding and clothes before taking it to the new house.
There is also a roach bait stuff that you can use, it is in a tube and I think raid makes it. You can squirt it in places where children and pets can't get to. I have used it when our nasty neighbors moved and the roaches were trying to make their way to my house and the other neighbors. A co-worker told me about it, because she had the same problem. I would put it down before moving into your new house, just as a precautionary method. It works like caulking, put it under the sinks and door frames. You might try putting it down before your move in your apartment and see what happens.
i moved in with my mother and she had roaches real bad. i just took my clothes which i took and washed with me when i left because they even got in my tv so i left everything except pictures that couldn't be replaced. so if you really don't want to take chances get rid of it. besides new house new furniture
