Dry clean or machine wash a comforter?

Question:I have a very pretty, all white, comforter for a queen sized bed, that I love, the onlly problem is that my dog had an accident on it!! So now I need to get it clean, So would taking it to get dry cleaned be better or is it fine to just machine wash it? And what would be the price to have a big comforter like that dry cleaned??

Answers:
I recommend washing it. Dry cleaning would be expensive and is less likely to remove any associated odors.

But you should go to a laundromat and use a large capacity, FRONT LOAD washing machine. Do not use a top load washing machine with a central agitator. A large single item will likely get wrapped around an agitator, not getting fully washed and possibly getting damaged.

I would have it dry cleaned and I would let the dry cleaner look at it and he would tell you how much . I would think not over 10.00 would be a good price . good luck .
If your comforter has a down filler it mat be washed. Most laundromats have large capacity washers that will accommodate something that large. It then may be dried.
its actually pretty expensive to dy clean such a big item, also when you dry clean its obviously not the same as actually washing it with water and soap. for a dog accident i would want the thing totally washed, and since its white mabey use a little bleach to sanitize.
Check the washing instructions on the comforter. Some say "do not dry clean", others say "dry clean only." If you don't have a large washer, and it's washable, go to a laundrymat. Spray first with some vinegar-water, or you may be able to bleach if it is all white. There should be a tag on a corner somewhere.
I had a kingsize comforter in my guest room dry cleaned, and the cost was $16.50, however, the comforter from my room which is kingsize also, I wash every other week because I have two small dogs. It is white too.
What kind of washer do you have. If you have a FRONT LOAD washing machine its ok to wash it at home. They are built to take them

If its a top load you will just get it wet.
I would pretreat with shout then put it on the gentle cycle in a big front loader at the laundromat. then dry on gentle. cost just a few bucks!
