Rule of thumb: if you haven't used it in a year...chuck it! Have a yard sale, make some cash off your trash.

The rule to follow is be ruthless.

If u havent used it in 3 month the chances of using it again are slim...- get rid of it.

If you apply this pricipal it will be easy to get rid of the clutter. An it will speed up the process.

Good luck!
Anything and I mean anything you don't use or need. It only clutters up your home and life. With all the clutter gone it won't take long to clean up whats left. Clutter is what you bought through the years that you thought you wanted but found out after you purchased it you could really live without it. It winds up in your closet, in cabinets, in the attic, in the garage, under the bed, etc. It's like having 50 pair of shoes when you only can wear one pair at a time. Then when you get it all together, have a yard sale and take the money you made and go by what you really need.
get boxes...or use garbage bags...put everything in boxes...do this fast because you aren't throwing it away you are just throwing into boxes as fast as you can...in fact you can set a kitchen timer for 10 minutes and see how many boxes you can fill up. Then, set the timer for five minutes...look at what is in the box... put what you can do without a large black strong garbage bag or boxes marked charity or yard sale or whatever. What doesn't go in the garbage bag or charity box has to go in a place in your house that is just for that item or items like it...like a drawer for socks, or a bookcase for books, or a dresser for a figurine. Since everything has been taken out of the drawers and closets and thrown in bags or boxes, you can now designate where you will put specific types of items... If there no good place for it then it goes away.

Take the stuff to the Salvation Army or other charity and get a receipt for income taxes deductions. Or if it's nice stuff you may want to have yard sale or take it to a consignment store.

I can fret ...thinking I can't..I don't have time..setting the kitchen timer and telling myself I just have to do something for as long as the timer lasts...helps. Like housework...I get overwhelmed...but I'm amazed at my progress if I just go in each room and set the timer for 10 minutes and then work as fast as I can..
If you love it keep it.
If it´s no good for you and you will never use it throw it out.
If you think it might be of use to someone else, then give it to the local church. Start in one room , 3 boxes. you will get the thing´s done . work for 15 min´s at a time , have a rest then do the same again . Set your alarm clock to go off in 15 min´s time, like this you will be working against the clock. I do this with my housework & i can tell you thing´s get done much quicker, when the alarm goes of always reward yourself.
You need to make a decision for each item whether to keep, toss, donate, or sell it. Tackle the donations first as you can take a few bags of stuff to your local Salvation Army or Goodwill Donation center a day if you need to. Don't forget to make a list of the items and get a receipt for tax deductions. At least this stuff is already leaving the house. Then work on what to toss, then sell or keep. Try to be reasonable.if you haven't used it or worn it or even remembered it, it's gone. If you want to have a yard or garage sale, specify an area for those items and begin tagging them. If you aren't interested then donate them. It takes a lot more work when you let it pile up than if you handle everything as it comes.
