one section at a time.(have a goal of clearing out one drawer...or one box/bag full of items to be thrown out).

Accomplishing something and seeing an end result will help you keep cleaning as the time goes by.

Keep in mind that if you havent used it in the past year you definetely no longer need it.so throw it out. Good luck
1. Throw away all trash
2. Put like items into piles
3. Separate "keeps" from "get rid ofs"
4. Sell or donate the "get rid ofs"
5. Get book shelves for books and go to container type stores for the other items (some stuff can go under the bed, or in closet)
6. Stay after it from then on, don't let it get out of control again.
First remove any and all laundry.
Second create three spaces/boxes to organize things. The categories should be:
1-trash
2-yard sale/give away
3-keep

Be ruthless and decisive when going through everything. Stick to your decisions! Now, get to it!
Flylady.net has some great ideas for cleaning up and staying clean.

One idea is the 21 fling boogie -- get a trash bag, and just toss 21 pieces of junk into it, then get it thrown away. This little exercise only takes a few minutes, but if you do it everyday, you will see a big difference -- as long as you don't bring 22 new pieces of junk into your room everyday!

Also, go through your bag every night, and throw out the junk, put away the stuff you won't need tomorrow, and put in the stuff you will need.

Very important: make sure you have a good trash can, and that you empty it AS SOON AS it is full. Don't let it brim over and spill on the floor. If your trash can is full, you have no place to put the garbage.

Flylady made a huge difference in how I look at my clutter, and my house is a lot cleaner as a result. Give her a try! She's got special tips for teens, too IIRC.
Get three large boxes or bins. Label one Keep, one Sell or Donate, and the third Chuck. Go through your items; anything in good condition or is important goes into the Keep box, anything in poor condition or is horribly out of date goes in the Chuck box, and everything else goes in the Sell or Donate box. Once you've chucked out items in the Chuck box, go through your Sell or Donate box again to see if anything can be kept, sold, donated, or chucked. After the final chuck session, have a garage sale. Anything that doesn't sell at the sale you can feel free to donate to your favorite thrift store. Put up your Keep items. Finally, as you bring new things home ask yourself, How much do I need it? If the answer is anything other than, Very much, don't keep it.
Start by always saying" what can I throw away next?."
decide what you need and can't live without, then get rid of the rest. Now have a place for everything and put everything in its place. Filing cabinet for important papers, proper and easy to use storage system for your clothes(make sure its something you will use) If you have alot of stuff that you keep for memories maybe you could just take a picture of the items and store it on a cd or in an album. Get rid of garbage. Put stuff away when you are done with it EVEN if you plan to use it later. If you open it, close it .if you drop it, pick it up. You get the idea. Good luck!
Well, I think that clutter is usually a lot of stuff that not only belongs in that room but other rooms. What I always do is get alot of bags. Walmart bags, just anything, then I put anything that goes in another room, say the bathroom, in that one bag, Each rooms junk has its own bag. Then After you have that room cleaned. You take a bag and put up everything thats in it and so forth. So there ya go, good luck and happy cleaning.
go to www.flylady.com. Its a great decluttering site. You need to ask yourself if you love something if you don't love it or use it you need to donate it. Don't bother with yard sales most of them take too much energy planning and you wont get the results you wanted and the clutter will probably make its way back in to your room. If you are attached to things because someone special gave or made it you should take a picture and write a little story and put them in a book, then donate the item.
i watch the show "clean sweep" on TLC , it is such a motivation, it will make you want to clean out your whole house. it teaches you how to place importance of items in your life and to let go of things that you really don't need.
good luck!!
