How do I freshen my maytag neptune washer?

Question:After my washer sits idle for a day or two it gives off a sewer like smell.

Answers:
Leave it open, if possible, so it can air out and dry. Run a load w/either vinegar OR bleach to help freshen it.

Run it with 1/2 cup bleach to kill the bacteria in there.
Do a load of clothes that you can bleach.socks and undershirts if you can. Running a wash with a cup of bleach will kill the bacteria that is living in your machine.
Look at the door gasket (gray ring). If there are black stains that is mold and mildew. It may not be recommended by the manufacturer but the only thing I have found to clean it is a diluted mixture of Tilex and water. Wear gloves when cleaning and run a rinse cycle before washing your next load of clothes.

There may have been a recall on your model. My serial numbers did not match the recall, but I still have the problem.
Add one cup of White Vinegar to the washer and run full cycle, do not add clothes or detergents or fabric softners during this treatment Good Luck !
try running a bleach only hot-water wash--high water setting with 1 cup of bleach-no clothes! this will sanitize your washer and kill any bacteria harboring in there. also, try to avoid letting clothes remain in your washer for any extended time and keep the door open when not in use to allow the machine to dry between washings to prevent mold/mildew.
