Do you know ways of whitening whites, aside from household bleach? Tried Oxy-clean, just for removing stains.?
Question:
Answers:
Try Bluing for laundry or borax and automatic dishwashing detergent along with half of your regular laundry soap.
Yes it´s outside . The sun, if you use natural soap, and wash your whites on a cold water cycle, and hang them outside in the sun , Th sun will bleach your whites the natural way, and they will be whiter than white.
Vanish spray and in wash liquid are good or you can use a net cutain whitener.
Tide liquid detergent & Final Touch fabric softener, works for me in that way. The softener contains a bluing agent that whitens the whites as well as making the clothes smell good. I don't need to use Oxi Clean for stains. I use Tide & Dawn dish soap together, to remove stains. Certain stains can be eliminated by spraying Windex or Dollar General brand window cleaner. :)
Here is another less expensive solution to whitening your clothes than using Bleach
Brighten your loads
Why waste money on that costly all-color bleach when you can get the same results using vinegar? Just add 1/2 cup white vinegar to your machine's wash cycle to brighten up the colors in each load.
Whiten your dingy crew socks
If it's getting increasingly difficult to identify the white socks in your sock drawer, here's a simple way to make them so bright you can't miss them. Start by adding 1 cup vinegar to 1 1/2 quarts (1.5 liters) tap water in a large pot. Bring the solution to a boil, then pour it into a bucket and drop in your dingy socks. Let them soak overnight. The next day, wash them as you normally would.
Get the yellow out of clothing
To restore yellowed clothing, let the garments soak overnight in a solution of 12 parts warm water to 1 part vinegar. Wash them the following morning.
Good Luck !
Downy has a fabric softner that is made to whiten whites. It comes in a dark blue bottle with a purple lid. It works really well. Also you can use a blueing agent. If you do use a blueing agent make sure that you follow all of the directions on the product or else you can risk turning your clothes blue. Also hang your white clothes outside to dry in the sun. They sun causes your whites to become brighter.
Vinegar and borax as well as the usual laundry detergent do it well. I use all 3 and a liquid softener. The borax has a natural enzyme in it that kills any bacteria and germs that are causing yellowing, such as from sweat and so on and the vinegar help to do a little of the same, but it also removes the stain without damaging as bleach does. I use this mixture in my husband wrestling gear and it works wonderfully.
If you have a hard stain you may want to make a paste out of the borax and vinegar or borax and water and apply it directly to the stain and rub in with a toothbrush or your fingers and let it sit for about 30 minutes before putting it in the wash.
Also, make sure you wash the whites on a high heat setting when using the borax/vinegar it assists in killing the germs and bacteria to let them do their job.
