Cleaning a stuffed animal my son has had for 6 months?
Question:My son has had a stuffed Tigger since Christmas of 2006. He sleeps with it in his mouth and after a day of it being there, it smelled like spoiled milk. I washed it in a pillow case, but the pillow case left blue fuzz balls ll over it- not a big deal but when I clean it in the washing machine and throw it in the dryer- it still smells stale. Is there any safe cleaning tips to remove the smell/ fuzzies that will not harm my baby?
Answers:
To make it easy, just go buy him a new Tigger. I collect Tiggers maybe I have one you could have for him. email me and let me know..
let him eat it
Try washing him in normal household soap and warm water.
Um, why not pitch it, and get a new Tigger? I dont think he will notice if he is only 6 months old.
After you wash it... get some frebreeze and spray it... its supposed to take away odors and be safe. I would air dry it.. no dryer.
Try sprinkling some baking soda on Tigger, to remove the odor, let set for a little while, then brush it out thoroughly before washing it. Try washing it in Ivory Snow, as it's great on baby's laundry. Since he sucks on it all the time, I would refrain from using fabric freshening sprays, etc. I don't think it's something you want your baby to suck on.
It it's labeled washable, you can give it the heartiest treatments for laundry odors, but I don't know that they'll necessarily work. What's probably happened is that a little milk has penetrated the plush and reached the highly-absorbent stuffing, where it's soured. Laundering the whole toy isn't really reaching this area with enough action to clean the sour milk from the stuffing.
If it's not replaceable, the best solution is to find a seam that doesn't show much, pick it open, breaking only the stitches and not the weave of the plush fabric, removing the stuffing and re-stuffing it with new, then stitching it shut. I've done that a few times for special "lovies" that stank.
