Get rust pits out of cast iron frying pans?

Question:

Answers:
Use steel wool if the rust pits are superficial. After buffing the rust away, clean thoroughly with hot soapy water and towel dry. Then, brush a thin, non-runny layer of vegetable oil over the entire pan and let bake in a low oven (about 250 degrees) for an hour, giving it an additional thin coating after 30 minutes. Try not to leave any runny areas or oil pools as the oil will get sticky and gummy there. Then, buff it off w/ clean paper towels and let cool.

If you have deep rust pits - get new pans. Lodge pans are cheap and work great.

buy new pans. if you cant, muriatic (swimming pool) acid will eat away the rust. just clean it up well when you are done.
Rub the pan with vegetable oil to recondition it.
Sand them off with steel wool, clean the pan and dry it carefully, then season it properly by rubbing it all over with vegetable oil and putting it upside down in a warm oven (heat to 250-300 degrees, then put the pan in, shut the door and turn it off after 15 minutes) until completely cool. You may want to put a cookie sheet under the pan to catch any drips.
