You want to buy a front load washer. They will take btwn 10-20 more garments then a top load washer. You will also use less H20 per load then a top loader. Depends on were you live but you might even get H20 and/or power rebates with them.
Lots of different ones out there. Lg are good would go with WM2487H or WM2688H. Whirlpool also has 2 good ones and the are WFW 9200 or 9400. I think you will be happy with any of them.

whirlpool cabrios - they are expensive but can do the 3 loads they say (tested mine just to see if true) the set will cost about $1800. I love mine.
I only have 3 kids, but I have an LG Tromm series front loader and love it! Not too expensive considering. It was under $1000 for the washer.
I got the LG TROMM and it isgreat. I can do almost three regular loads in one now. I just find myself folding for longer periods of time but it saves lots of time and effort throughout the day.
