One of my old apartments had a cigarette smell when I moved in. I opened the windows. Then I sprayed and wiped all of the walls wtih a product called OdoBan. It is available at Sam's in a gallon of concentrate. Then I mopped with it too. I sprinkled the carpets with baking soda and vacuumed. You can also use a vinegar/water mixture in lieu of the OdoBan. Wash all bedding, etc...

Hire someone who can. Enlist the help of family or friends. Wash everything. Above all CONGRATULATIONS! May you live a long and healthy life.
Me, too...and as much as I hate the ads, I've found febreze helps. You may have to get the furniture and carpets cleaned too. The smell is still lingering in my house, no matter how many hours per day I leave open the doors and window.
febreze is great stuff
I also just quit. Here's what I did. Washed all fabric window treatments; shampooed carpeting; washed down walls (you'd be surprised at the brown **** that came off on my sponge (Just think how that coats the lungs!); and opened all the windows so the breeze could blow through.
you can buy an air purifier that would clean, in stead of masking the odors i use them they do work
I cleaned for the military when the families moved out and this is what we did. We took bleach and hot water to wipe all the walls down. We even had to clean the ceilings and we used a sponge mop to do that. You will also have to clean all the carpets as we did that also. Then you can put vinegar or backing soda out in small containers around your house to use as odor elemators. You will also have to clean all the inside windows because the smoke leaves a film on all the windows. I'm a smoker and I have done this to clear housing with the military. I don't smoke in the house were renting now.
Candles...I burn them all the time.
congrats! try washing all the fabric items in the washing machine, like curtains that will help, open windows if you can, use febreeze fabric freshener! give it time it will clear up!
Congrats! I quit a few moths ago myself, and the best tip I can give you came from my carpet cleaning company. Take a bucket and fill with warm water and white vinegar, you only use about a little less than half a bottle, take a sponge or rag and begin wiping everything off from top to bottom. The furniture can be sprayed lightly with the combination. Then you could also call a carpet pro, and have them clean your furniture and carpet, that will help you get started. Good luck.
Air the apartment out well, then wash all linens and curtains, and maybe try wiping the walls down.
CLEAN WALLS WITH AMMONIA AND WATER. YOU WILL BE SURPRISED AT ALL THE BROWN STUFF THAT COMES OFF.
