Do you require guests to remove their shoes in your house?

Question:its up to them

Answers:
While I am a full-time barefooter, I don't require people to take off their shoes when they visit. I don't really like any shoe or footwear rules; it should be clear to anyone who reads these barefoot questions that there are people who're just as uncomfortable taking their shoes off as I would be wearing them. Why would I do that to them? A house is meant to be lived in, and my cats don't even wipe their feet when they come in... only when someone would have very muddy shoes, I'd ask them to do something about it, but whether they take their shoes off or use the outdoor hose is up to them.

we used to have white wall to wall carpeting. yes! most did ,some bitched and moaned. Now we have hardwood floors. used to ask the same thing. after ten years I have given up. i don't care if it's scratched- just don't track in dog poop.
Yes.But most of the cases, they do themselves.nobody walks inside with shoes on.....
I was brought up from a early age to remove my shoes when I'm a guest in a persons house
I ask people to remove their shoes when they come into my home ( I have very light beige carpet)

Its a courtesy to not bring the dirty/crap /germs into someones home
Not only is it not required, it's almost better not to...I have a husband, large dogs, and grandchildren--doesn't take long after mopping floors and shampooing carpets to look like I haven't done either so it saves socks from getting so black if they don't...and most people that visit are elderly and/or diabetic--they shouldn't have to remove their shoes on my account, even if my floors were spotless...
The shoes off or on question really depends on where you live. I am from California and we never took our shoes off when we indoors.

Since then we moved to the Midwest and everyone takes their shoes off here. Here the mud is different and makes a large mess in house if you leave your shoes on even if you live in the city.

In California the soil is kind of sandy and falls off your shoes easier.

The choice is yours but I like taking my shoes off when in the house and have built an area by the front door where people can take off their shoes or just stand by the door when they come over.

Maybe that's where the statement, "kick your shoes off, sit a spell" came from.
Yes.
It's polite to remove your shoe's when entering other peoples homes isn't it, Unless told otherwise.
I do it just out of respect for others. I don't aske the adults to take theirs off when coming in but I do tell the kids to. They don't wipe their feet and I get tired of cleaning the carpet all the time.
no. Due to the fact that I have two rather large dogs that are constantly tracking in dirt and mud, plus three kids, and a boyfriend worse than all of them I give up. Needless to say my carpet shampooer and vacuum, plus mop are always working overtime!
absolutely
I DO I HAVE A NICE SIGN ON MY DOOR THAT SAYS PLEASE REMOVE YOUR SHOES BEFORE ENTERING,NO EXCEPTIONS
No I don't.
Don't require it. However, the area that i'm it's just common courtesy. People don't even hesitate to do so.
No because I have two dogs that are in the house.
I don't require guests to remove their shoes in my house unless they have them caked with dirt.
My house is strictly shoes off at the door for everyone. We have a covered porch where everyone leaves there shoes. My kids and I have the shoes off thing engrained in our heads that we don't even think about it we come to the door kick off the shoes and walk in the house in socks. Guests are all unique in their own way. My close friends that visit often know about the shoes off rule so they just add theirs to the pile and come in. My kids friends usually will see my kids taking off their shoes and do the same. If we are already in the house when they arrive my kids will just say something like "you have to take off your shoes it's my moms rule." For first time visitors many will see the pile of shoes on the porch and ask if they should take off their shoes. I recently bought a sign that says "please remove your shoes before entering" THis prompts people to take their shoes off. If I invite someone over for the first time I casually let them know before they arrive i will just say "oh just so you know we don't wear shoes in the house so when you come over just leave your shoes on the porch." I have never had anyone refuse to take off their shoes in fact i have actually converted several homes to shoes free zones
MY aunt always insisted we keep our shoes on when we entered her home
she only asked that we wipe our feet. Her logic was its alot easier to vaccum up a little dirt then have people leave there perspiration from there feet all over her house
I do the same it works good
