Cleaning album paper off old photos?

Question:I have a box of photos from the 1800's that were removed from an old album. They have pieces of the album paper stuck to them where they had been glued on. Some have writing in pencil and some in ink but I need to get the paper off safely to be able to read what is written on the back of the pictures. What is the best and safest way to do this?
The album paper is heavy black stock.

You can try with brown paper and a warm to hot iron. Place the paper over the photos and iron over it . It should come off with the steam
