How do I get rid of "knats" or "fruit flies"?
Question:I can't seem to get rid of those little suckers!
Answers:
They are really persnickety and you can't swat them because they are too quick!
I usually set traps for them. Here's how... put some fruit or yeasty-bread in a gallon ziploc and prop the zipper part open with a small paper cup. They can't resist it! They will fly in for the fruit or bread, then you can zip them up quickly and get rid of them however you want. It will take a few days to get rid of them all, but the traps will work. I usually put traps in my bathroom and my kitchen. It also takes them a few hours to find their way into the bag, but keep checking and you'll get them.
I've also heard there are really 3 different kinds - the fruit kind that will fall for the trap above, ones that are drawn to the standing water in your drains, and ones that are drawn to your houseplants. Don't know how to deal with the other two.
a) use a vaccume
b) use sticky fly paper
c) get rid of the source! probably fruit
d) open the windows and use a fan
e) if you have an outside electric bug zapper, set it up inside one night!
If you are having problems with them around the sink drain, you can pour a little clorox down the drain and it should solve your problem.

Hello
First off if you have any indoor plants your going to want to saturate the soil with an organic insect killer every day for about 2 weeks but not to the point of over watering. Because if you do have indoor plants the gnats are spawning in the soil. If you do not then you probably have something rotting some where that you are ill aware of and need to find and remove. They could be living in damp decaying wood, if your house is old it's possible there is a leak somewhere that can't be seen but may have been found by the gnats. I suggest using the indoor insect foggers in every room to remove the infestation. I have used them myself and sold them plenty of times. Cover any food that is left out with a cloth or a bag, don't mind whats in the fridge or cabinets or your clothes or your bed. It's all safe. Goodluck!
