How do I clean my stainless steel garbage can? It's got a greasy film on it.?
Question:I used a brush with warm water and dawn. This didn't work. Also tried vinegar but that didn't cut greasy film. What else can I try. It's dull and lost it's shine and feels rough. Thanks.
Answers:
Use 409 cleaner to get the grease off. Then polish with a Stainless steel polish any brand will do if it is made for Stainless. Most Stainless polishes have a oil base, use very very sparingly.
Be careful some stainless has a "grain" or "brushed" finish, using some materials will scratch the surface. Like would rub and polish with the grain or finish.
Note: in extreme cases I have used oven cleaner ( the kind you use on a cold oven) .
Try Windex or generic window cleaner or rubbing alcohol.
That should do the trick.
Try this cleaner:

Environmentally friendly, and it has a lot of other uses around the house.
a can of stainless steel cleaner
you should be able to buy it a lowes or home depot
or your local hardware store . . .
I use CameO ALUMINUM & STAAINLESS STEEL CLEANER.it is a powder and is in the cleaning asle. It isn't that expensive.
To clean the grease, use ordinary dish washing soap liquid. Then you can use any window type cleaner to shine it up...

TSP, Tri-sodium-phosphate. You can purchase it at any hardware or paint store. You can mix it to the strength that is required to do the job . Cuts grease like nothing else. Probably should wear gloves. Its not dangerous though, just a heck of a degreaser. Try it.
White Magic Sponges is the only thing to use.
