How to clean a down comforter?
Question:Do you have to take it to the cleaners or just wash it a certain way? If it has to go to the cleaners about how much should I expect to pay for it, in the Central Florida area?
Answers:
you are supposed to dryclean. however, i put mine in the washer and dryer and it is totally fine. you just have to have a big enough washer to handle it.
I throw mine in the washer and dryer. It'll be fine!!
Dry clean it! Don't launder and here's why. Improper washing can damage the down clusters, stripping them of their natural oils and causing them to break. Washing can also cause your down comforter to shrink about 5%. And home style washing machines are not designed to handle large down items. Washing your comforter at home can cause damage to your comforter or to your washer or dryer. Expect to pay $35 or so. Well worth the price of professional care.
Definately Dry clean. I tried washing it and my washer just wasn't big enough to get it clean. I paid about 18.00 here in Texas not sure there in Florida. Call your local cleaners and ask.
alot of the newer manufactured down comforters are now machine washable. You will pay twice as much but it saves sooo much on dry cleaning...before i spent 40 dollars a month having my conforter dry cleaned, now i just pop it in the washer its soooooo much easier... i just got all my 5 kids each one, they are great.
The detergent doesnt really matter i use TIDE cause its the best and i dont use a duvet cover so it gets more wear and tear. But if your concerned use ZERO fabric wash.
washing is easy...drying the trick is to buy 10 regular tennis balls, put them in the dryer... this helps even out the down so its not all bunched up into one corner and it helps it dry alot faster... I also...once its dry add two more bounce with febreze sheets and put it on perma press for 15 more minutes, it smells amazing holding the smell and poofs it up even more :)
good luck hope this helped
