Do tumble dryers rotate clockwise or anti-clockwise?

Question:is it different in the southern hemisphere?

Answers:
The modern tumble dryers rotate both ways.

Clockwise, I think. I am sure it is the same at the other end of the world, too. : )
Don't know, the door's shut when it's going round.
Yes thats true.
Actually, the middle bit stays still and the outside bit rotates.
most go both ways
They rotate Clockwise regardless of the hemispheres.
good answer Happyhaw:: Pinkpetts goes both ways, I wonder if she:s on the same page"
Clockwise generally, but i have a reverse tumble dryer so mine goes both ways!
Ah now that depends on wich country you're in.,
Wow, that was a really stupid question. I feel dumber having read it.

As far as I know there are no "dryer spinning standards" set by a non existent Dryer Consortium. It's up to the manufacturer and how the engine is mounted.

You're thinking water in the toilets flushing differently in the Southern hemisphere.
Mine goes clockwise. And I'm not sure.
They usually go round clockwise, unless you have a reverse tumble, in which case they go both ways.

Hemispheres don't come into it as it is not a natural phenomenon
Clockwise, i don't want to get technical, but it's due to the wiring of the motor. If you change the wires on the motor it will turn the other way!
Depends on what type of drier. The ones I work with alternate. About a minute one way, stop for a few seconds, then about a minute the other way.
They typically rotate clockwise, regardless of hemisphere (they run on 1-phase electrical AC current all over the world). This is just a design convention...one could easily be made to run counter-cw. The sink thing with water is about gravitational pull (and is a myth btw).
most go clockwise... but only because there designed by right handed people.. (they have a right hand bias & design that into things without even thinking about it) . some dryers have an anti tangle cycle that turns the dryer drum both ways so the clothes dont get tangled...

dosnt matter which hemisphere your in..

but sinks do run backwards downunder...(its called the corialis effect) so jglick1999 got it wrong

& as per usual . people posting here didnt research there reply & have no idea what there talking about.
Mines flash it goes both ways, so i'm guessing it would still go both ways even at the south pole!! (thats if the penguin's don't mind me using their electric!!) :)
I live in the northern hemisphere and my drier tumbles clockwise... no wait a minute... anti-clockwise... hang about... clockwise... no, I'm wrong, it's anti-clockwise... oh, that's right; I bought one of those multi-turn things that's supposed to reduce creasing...
Generally they spin clockwise, but most these days have a reverse function that helps to untangle clothes.

With reference to Easygoings 'facts' about the Coriolis Effect, it is he who is wrong, not jglick1999. The whole myth about water going the opposite way round the plug hole in the Southern hemisphere is just that - a myth! The Coriolis Effect is the apparent deflection of objects from a straight path if the objects are viewed from a rotating frame of reference. One of the most notable examples is the deflection of winds moving along the surface of the Earth to the right of the direction of travel in the Northern hemisphere and to the left of the direction of travel in the Southern hemisphere. This effect is caused by the rotation of the Earth and is responsible for the direction of the rotation of cyclones. As a consequence, winds around the centre of a cyclone rotate counterclockwise in the Northern hemisphere and clockwise in the Southern hemisphere.
The misconception continues to propagate in popular culture, that the Coriolis effect determines the direction in which bathtubs or toilets drain, such that water always drains in one direction in the Northern Hemisphere, and in the other direction in the Southern Hemisphere. Notably, a Simpsons episode confirms the myth incorrectly, as do several websites. Strangely, many of these websites incorrectly claim that drain water spins clockwise north of the equator, and counterclockwise south of it, which is reversed from direction of spin that would result from the Coriolis force if it were a determining factor.

Therefore, Easygoing, 'tis you who didn't research their reply and doesn't know what they are talking about. Muppet.
