Putting hats in the dishwasher really work?
Question:My work hat is getting kind of gross, and it says not to put it in the washing machine. Does putting it in the dishwasher really work? Do you have any other 'home remedies' ?
Answers:
If you are talking about a baseball cap style, then you can put it in the dishwasher in the top rack. I had a plastic gadget that you put the hat in to help it keep it's shape; I think I got it at Walmart. Don't put dishes in when you are washing the hat, and don't leave it in while the d/w is set on "dry". Good Luck!
Yes. There is even something you can buy so that your hat will keep its shape
Yes it works because the hat isn't smashed in the washing machine spin cycle and still gets clean.
Would you eat off dishes or want a beverage from your dishwasher after that icky hat?
Do yourself a favor and get a new one!
Mine get extremely sweaty and dirty working on/near aircraft. I've cleaned them using upholstery cleaner, or even shampoo, washing by hand. But they're never the same. Mine have been okay just putting them in the clothes washer, drying them stuffed with newspaper, overnight.
Dishwasher detergents often contain bleach, so be careful before trying this out. I stick my dishrags in the machine to disinfect them and they come out lighter than before.
You can always stick your hat in a bucket of laundry detergent and water. Let it soak for a while then scrub the dirtiest areas with an old tooth brush. Rinse thoroughly and let hang dry.
i cleans my husbands hats in the dishwasher all the time
