Shower curtain help please?
Question:I have a frosted clear type plastic shower curtain and along the bottom I noticed mildew and mold collecting. I have no wash machine and i want to clean it. any suggestions. Would tilex work or maybe bleach and water in a spray bottle? Help please

Bleach and water in a spray bottle would help, but washing it would be better. If you don't have a wash machine, get a large plastic bag, put the curtain in it with hot water and some soap, then shake it around. Rinse it thoroughly when you take it from the bag (you can do that outside with a garden hose) because it is the soap and scum residue on the shower curtain that is causing the mildew and mold. Once you have it cleaned, you can spray it regularily and wipe it down with a washcloth, to make sure you don't have any residue gathering.
Tilex will work. I wouldn't use bleach...it's a little too harsh. Try taking the curtain out from the shower to dry some after you use it. Though shower curtains are so cheap, I'd just replace it.
Bleach and water will not hurt it. Just spray it with the bleach water and then wipe it down after a few minutes it should clear it up. Just keep the bottle handy a couple times a week.
try soaking the mildewed end in vinegar it is less harsh than blech and cheaper than most cleaning products. to keep it from happening again take a pair of scissors and cut a few inches off the bottom so it doesn't sit in the water.
just spray Clorox from a spray bottle, and let it set for about 20/30 minutes, then rinse it off, Clorox kills mildew and it cost way way less than tilex, which is about 99 % you guessed it Bleach.hope this helps Love Beckyd
I don't think you have to use bleach right away. I cleaned mine a while ago - it was pink along the bottom and up the sides from mildew. I took it off the rod, laid it out on the driveway, and used baking soda, dish soap, and a scrub brush to get it off (for small spots you can use a toothbrush). It worked really well. Just plaster the soap and soda on (add a little water to get it pasty), scrub for a little while, and use the hose to wash it off. Mine looked brand-new! For future reference: there are after-shower sprays that help prevent mold and mildew build-up. Good luck!
There is a product called De-Mold and basically it is a bleach/water mixture but a little less abrasive. That's what I use on mine. Good Luck!
You can lay it down outside, and dip a mop in mild soapy bleach water and mop the ends. You can also delay this mild problem in the future by leaving the shower curtain closed. If you leave it pushed back and scrunched against itself, it will grow mold faster. There is also a spray you can buy that you just squirt once or twice into the shower when you get out that will prevent this.. but a little mixture of vingar, mint green alcohal and water prayed on your curtain once or twice a week will stop that too... hope this helped.
Bleach and water will not hurt it, using bleach without water will. Mix 1cup water with 1/4 cup of bleach. Spray the shower curtain really well, and with a scrub brush scrub the area with the mold. Another solution you can use is straight vinegar and scrub the area well. Vinegar is natural, no chemicals that can irritate the skin or damage the curtain. Vinegar also helps clean off water spots on the curtain, so does a mixture of ammonia and water (1 part ammonia to 2 parts of water).
Hope this helps.
wouldn't be easier to buy new ones.
Lay it down outside, and spray with whatever you decide to use, and let it sit for a few mins...then hose it down. If you still have stubborn spots, spray them again and get after them with a scrubbie...rinse and let dry.
