Stripping bed sheets of their color?
Question:I currently have 600ct gold sheets that I am wanting to dye purple. I'm trying to find the best way of doing this. Do I need to strip the gold out of the sheets and if so, how do I do that? And where can I buy the product to do it? ( I live in Texas ) Or can I just dye them purple and they'll look fine? Also, will this harm my sheets? I like them being silky soft and don't want to lose that feel. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

if you want a true purple i would use the RIT dye remover first, then dye them the color you want them to be. just follow the instructions on the packages, because you should have to rewash the item after you remove the color, then change to the color you want the longer you leave it sit in the dye the darker it will get. you will need more than one package of each for true results.. i have used RIT on curtains and it did not effect the feel of the fabric, so you should be ok..
It is only an opinion but.....
IF you dye soft sheets like that- the dye might MESS up the material and leave you with rags.
If I was you -I would enjoy the gold colour instead of attempting to change them and chance ruining them

Just dye them. RITE dye will do just fine.
Fabric dyes in this day and time are AWFULLY good, and that means changing the color is going to be tough. You could potentially bleach the sheets, but it's probably going to damage the fabric - possibly quite severely. I think if you just try to dye them purple, you'll come up with some sort of awful brown, though. So, I suppose you have nothing to lose by bleaching the sheets, and trying it. The worst thing you'll have to do is buy a new set, and you'll have to do that anyway if you don't try it.
I know they sell Rit dye in Texas, but it's not terribly good stuff in my experience (of course, it may have improved). I'd check with a hobby store like MJ Designs to see if they have something that's more colorfast.
