Do white polyester athletic shirts get yellow pit stains just like white cotton t-shirts?
Question:A common problem with sweating (from working out for example) and wearing antiperspirants is that it will yellow the shirt I am wearing.
I know that just wearing regular deodorant would be better but I don't always remember/I was out and about while wearing anti-p and went straight to the gym.
So if I wore a white polyester shirt (Nike Dry Fit for example) with antiperspirant deodorant, would it yellow just like a cotton T? And for bonus points (lol), can the stain be removed?
Answers:
the yellowing is probably not your deoderant but your fungii. Treat it with by asking your local pharmacist about a reccomended antifungal cream. I use Mitchum or Degree antiperspirant / deoderant , either works well enough and the smell is masculin enough for me. Cotton can be treated with Tide with Bleach for whites-- wash separate from colors. Or any good soap and add a small amt of bleach. Synthetics require a separate stain remover, like Shout.. and more often than not the stain wont remove.
Yes, except they're even HARDER to get out of polyester.
Mostly anything can stain :)
I suggest, buying a different color shirt..
Or... after you are done sweating all over it, soak it. As I type this, I am working on stains my boyfriend left in a few of his shirts. Ugh. They're so gross, his are not yellow, they get dark brownish which is more likely the oil in the anti-pers. sweating. When I get the stains out (and this has worked before on some of my brothers shirts) I use dish soap. Sounds crazy, I KNOW.. but people use dishsoap to take grease, dirt, whatever, from dishes. It really works for me. I'm not sure if anyone else has had luck with it. What I do is I soak the entire area that had the pit stain in dishsoap. I scrub it in with a toothbrush and let it sit. Then, I let it soak in warmer water to get some of the soap out. After that I run it through the washer and it's normally gone. If not, one more cycle usually takes care of it.
