Washing Machine trouble?

Question:My washing does not come out of the machine smelling like a field of flowers – it smells like it has been in the machine for days, all musty and horrible.

I use Own brand washing powder and Comfort/Lenor softener, so I would expect it to smell nice.

Is there a way of ‘rinsing’ the system with something to get rid of the nasty smell?

Thanks for your help

there might be a blockage in your machine.at the bottom ofyour machine on the front there might be a round knob if you turn it and open it up if there is any thing in it it will come out but be carefull has water will come out has well so put towels or somthing down first to soak up the water you should be able to get anyy dirt any thing htat is blocking it out once you have down that put you machine back on at the hottest wash and let it go through its cycle with out any thing in it d see how it go.s hope this helps

try a weak solution of bleach, 60 wash. that should get rid of the smell
just try and do a short cycle with an empty load and see if that does the trick
You can buy special sachets of descaler for the washing machine from most supermarkets. They need to be used on their own for a wash cycle. Hope it works for you.
cut up a lemon and add it to your wash with vinegar and baking soda. set the washer on 'large load'. add a few scrubby (body scrubbies) to extra clean the basket.
put white vinegar in the drawer and run it on a hot wash it may have pipes which have become furred up with dirt and grime.
Check the filters are clean. Then a bag of ordinary washing soda (Asda, Tesco 55 pence). Throw the whole bag (contents!) into your machine, do a very hot wash, removes all that build up of greasy gunge. If you are not easily embarrased, look at the machine while its washing..you washed your clothes in that...??!
Johncob's answer is spot on. What I always say to peolpe when they use their washing machines is to put the powder/liquid directly into the drum. Don't worry if it falls through the holes because when the machine fills, it will push it back into the drum.
This cleans clothes better because all the detergent gets into the wash and it stops the powders going hard in the pipe from the detergent draw.
This can cause the smell and can make the washer break down.
