Using regular Tide detergent with HE (High Efficiency) Washing machine?

Question:I have just been told that using regular Tide washing detergent will foul up my new HE (High Efficiency) Washing Machine. I am in a fix because I have tonnes of the Regualr washing detergent. Does anybody know what I can do (or add) to the detergent to make it usable on the High Efficiency Washing machine?

Answers:
Use the HE detergent. One it will have less suds then the other. You now have a washer that uses less water. The "old" detergent is for 40 gallons of water. If you use it even less of it. You could do two things. One your loads will come out and feel like there is still soap on them. Two. You will "gum up" the washer you just paid $1000-1500 for. Eat the cost of the detergent you have because you might be costing your self more if you don't.

I'm sorry I don't but may I suggest you give it to a shelter or someone who can use it and switch to Sun and Earth that is so much better for the environment.
HE detergent is less sudsy than regular detergent. Use half as much tide (maybe even as little as 1/3 of a cap) as you would normally to keep your machine from over foaming. You will really only need that much to clean even the fullest load because the HE washers are constantly circulating fresh water instead of swishing your clothes in the dirty water.
The fillers and amount of suds from normal detergent are not good for the HE washers because they use less water than standard washing machines.

Try to take the detergent back to a store and swap it for HE, or sell your regular detergent on e-bay and use the money to buy the HE detergent to put in your new washing machine.
You can use the regular detergent, but use less of it. It tends to
create too many suds. Use up what you have, and then purchase the HE Tide.
I have a front loader washer and I have used reg. soap before I just don't use as much. I use half of what I would normally would. My best friend also has one and she told me it was ok, she had her machine like yrs before me.
I read somewhere that the reason you need to use the HE detergent instead of the regular was because the regular was too strong. I would suggest you use a lot less of the regular detergent. Where you normally use a cup of regular use a 1/2 or 1/4 cup. But you can always find a friend or family member who uses regular detergent and see if they will buy your "tons" of the regular and then go and buy the HE kind.

I had the same problem and all you have to do is use the extra water option on your washing machine. It should be a button right on the front that says water plus or soemthing to that effect and I did an extra spin just to be sure that the detergent got rinsed well from the clothing. Just do that until you run out of detergent because the detergent costs alot more than an extra gallon of water.
