I left a banana in my backpack, it got moldy and now the bag smells, what will get the smell out?
Question:I've washed it twice in the washing machine with detergent, but it still smells, and I don't feel comfortable putting anything in the bag with the smell still there. What should I use?
Answers:
Try fabreeze. I use it on everything; it's an amazing product. Spray the bag, turn it inside-out, and sit it outside for a while.
wash with lysol
clean it with baking soda and water. Scrub it thoroughly and let it dry.
I'd buy some of that lavender scented fabric softener, (it comes in a purple bottle?) and instead of adding it to the wash, pour it on the backpack in the dryer. It will smell wonderful. Here's a link with a picture of it. (It worked when we had the house insulated and some rodent died in the walls of my mom's bedroom. Sad... but smelly... but curable...)

Maybe you don't need the 9 bottles sold bulk on this link, but just get one of these at the grocery store.
Wash again ! Using one cup of White Vinegar; no detergent added put on full cycle, when done hang outside to dry inside out but not in direct sunlight, this will remove the odor and any mold that grew on the inside of your backpack. Good Luck !
lysol
turn it inside out and if it's polyester you can wipe it down with some disinfectant spray and throw it in the wash, then air dry it inside out.
if it's fabric on the inside, turn it inside out, try to scrub out as much as the excess as you can, the throw it in the wash, and again air dry inside out.
it's important to AIR dry it because if there are still food particles inside the fabric, heating them, after they are soaked will make it smell worse, air drys out the particles and they flake away, taking the smell with it.
give bicarba bash!!
Wash it in the washing machine or with febreeze
Honey, when I spilled milk in the trunk of my car--it soured. You know the scenario, hot summer time, closed trunk, carpet, etc. I took the carpet out, put on the fence, everything this old broad could think of doing. Someone suggested that I cut an ONION, put it on a saucer, and leave it in there overnight. A new Lexus, and of course, I'm gonna try anything. Have to tell the old man at some point if I don't.
IT WORKED! I don't know why. NO, it wasn't an overwhelming onion odor either. I still don't understand how or why it worked.
throw it away
Maybe you should spray some perfume inside your backpack.
Baking soda and water and soak it. Or use Febreeze, oust , or lysol. If you don't mind it being white, use bleach.
It's really time to get a new backpack
