Discrimating ladies only!! What is the proper way to dust and vacuum?
Question:i never know if i should vacuum first and then, dust or, dust first and then, vacuum. what to you do?
Answers:
i used to work for office cleaning professionally, dust first, then vacuum, start from the top and go down, and if your vacuum cleaner is stirring up a lot of dust then it needs to be checked to see if the bag is fitted properly, or needs changing, or if you are using cheap bags, you should get the triple layer bags which catches more dust inside the bag, also check the bag at least once a weak to make sure its no more than 1/3rd full of dirt, when they get too full the pores of the bag get clogged up and dont filter well,, if you try to over fill them, they can and do burst and then the dirt goes into the motor and will burn the motor up,
a little precaution time is well spent,
but not all vacuums use bags, so also check the filters and make sure they are clean, at least weekly if you vacuum daily , or check monthy if you only vacuum a couple times a week, for water filter vacuums each time you vacuum make sure you start with clean water and dont over fill it, the back spray from the wind action will get the water spray sucked into the motor, and each time you are done and clean up the water/ mud container, leave it seperated from the motor, and lay the motor part on its side so that any moisture that gets inside will dry out, most people don't really think about it , even after spending hundreds of $$ for these vacuums and they wind up with rusted motors, so let them dry out in between uses, don't leave them stacked together, it traps the moisture inside,
another tip for those who don't know or never thought about it, change the belt on the vacuum cleaner brush roll about every 2 months, they tend to stretch out with time and use, when they get stretched out they may look like they are rolling good, but they will start slipping and thereby not be doing the best job of cleaning the dirt from the carpets,
as for dusting, do not dry dust, if you don't like buying the sprays for dusting, you can use a rag wet with water wring it out well so stuff ain't soaked with water, then go back over it with a dry rag, when wet rag gets dirty you can rinse it out, and re-use it, this is also a great method for those with allergies,,
also feather type dusters are not recommended, they really spread the dust in the air a lot,
for dusting / cleaning wood furniture, wet clean it, dry , then use the oil type polish to keep the wood in good condition ,
hope this helps,

Phone Molly Maid and ask them this skill question. If they pass then tell them you might considered hiring them.
Dust first...
reason is the dust that falls on the floor will be vacuumed up.
Peace.
you have to dust first. why would you vacuum the carpet and then go around dusting throwing dirt on the carpet? and what the heck does "discrimating" mean?
get the right vaccuum , & you won't have to dust ( much) .You don't have to be a woman to know that labor-saving devices should ...uh,. save labor .;D
I like to vacuum first. I feel like the vacuum stirs up dust in the house. Then I dust last. Unless I'm doing a major cleaning like dusting ceiling fans, etc. Then I dust first.
I would say vacuum first and then dust. Here is my theory. When you dust you catch a good bit on your rag but what does not get on the rag is dispersed in the air and as we have all seen it floats around and slowly will go to the floor(and sadly back on our nicely dusted surface.) So you will not really be vacuuming up your dust. Now if you vacuum first you will stir up dust and it will get on your furniture. If you haven't dusted yet alot will be gathered up on you rag. If you have dusted then you are just adding dust back to your newly dusted surface.
So, Vacuum then dust. Oh, another aspect to this. Vacuuming doesn't smell great and often we use a furniture polish as we dust which does tend to smell nice so if you have vacuumed and then you dust (which is usually a finishing touch) you finish off the room with a nice smell and a sparkle.
MAYBE NEO'S WIFE COULD ANSWER THIS ONE !!!!!!
different people will give you different answers mainly because not every ones house or vacuum cleaner is the came.
if you have a cheap vacuum cleaner then it will throw dust in the air, in which case you should obviously dust afterward.
i always dust with a slightly damp cloth, that way non of the dust is thrown up in the air and its a better method then buying an expensive duster that you just have to replace!
i usually dust after vacuuming, but that's just my preference!
