What is the best way to clean the metal plates that sit under the burners of an electric stove?I can't do it!

Question:no matter what I try. Would oven cleaner work? Is there something stronher?

Answers:
As for cleaning them, if a Brillo Pad doesn't work to clean them well enough then, it's time to replace them with new ones which, is better anyway because of the price of them in most places is only a couple dollars a piece and they last a long time.

Check a Home Depot, Lowe's or a good hardware or appliance store. It is much easier and cheaper to just buy new ones. I assume you are referring to the rings that you can lift out of there? Oven cleaner may work, but I'd be reluctant to use anything stronger. An acid would probably eat away the finish. New ones are inexpensive when you find them, last time I did this they were about eight dollars for the set of four.
The best thing to do is to replace them. You can buy inexpensive drip pans at Walmart or other discount stores. Just match the size, shape and exact placement of the opening for the plug. I have cleaned quite a few in the past by soaking in ammmonia and water and lots of scrubbing, but it is hard on your hands - wear gloves.
Replace them!

or

Soak them for a long in super hot Dawn Oxy clean dish detergent. Or go out and buy the Oxy Clean powder bucket.
isn't this one of things that is on the e-mail that circulates every so often for one of many uses for Bounce dryer sheets? Dampen and let sit in the sink. supposed to come right off. I've never tried it, though.
I just buy new one's at Wal-Marts from time to time when mine get yucky.
They need to be replaced at this point, but if you clean them with each use, you wouldn't have the problem.
