How Do I Clean My Kitchen Ceiling?

Question:I have an older wood burning stove and a lot of ash dust gets all over things in the kitchen. Cleaning windows and countertops are no problem. But the ceiling is. What is the best way to clean a kitchen ceiling and with what product. I started using a mop with a powdered cleaner Spick and Span, and it has helped, but it is slow going. Any suggestions?

I don't have a wood burning stove but I clean my ceilings at least once a month.I use this fantastic stuff from Home Depot called 505 and a sponge mop.No rinsing is required and it really works on everything else around the house.Bathrooms,carpets,veneti... blinds, etc.
As a retired apartment manager take my word for it.It isn't that expensive as you don't have to buy different cleaners. It also cleans grease off the stove so easy you will wonder what you did without it.Hope this helps.

I have an open fire and I get this problem on my walls because they are not smooth so it sticks, but I hoover my walls and if they are really dirty I also use a mop, painfully slow and arduous work. What about hiring a wet wash machine like you use for sofas or cleaning ponds?
You are doing my suggestion, and it is a hard job.
First of all, I would make sure I clean with something that is non-flammable. For me...Good old Arm & Hammer Baking Soda always works. It will take some elbow grease, but surprisingly enough it works very well as a cleanser. It is a mild cleanser that works very well. I use it to clean my stove and refrigerator as well as my coffee carafe and cups. It gets stains out with minimal effort. It also works to refresh your drains and can actually unclog drains at times...just pour baking soda followed by white vinegar into your drain. You may need to follow it with HOT water, but not necessarily.
Is your ceiling painted with a Gloss base paint. If not it would make cleaning a easier if it was.

You need 2 buckets, gloves a ladder and some hand towels/wash rags. Dawn and degreasser (found in any hardware store or Wal-Mart)

In one bucket mix 1/4 cup of Dawn and 3/4 cup of degreaser add HOTwater. (stronger mix up to 1 1/2 cup degreasser)
In the second bucket fill with HOT water. This will be your rinse water. (You can add a pinsol or lysol for a clean smell)

Wash a section of ceiling with soapy solution in circular motion then rinse right away. One rag for washing and one rinsing. Change both waters off ten.

When done lightly wipe ceiling with clear furniture oil. This will make it easier to clean next time.Good luck
