Dyson is the best brand on the market, however it is expensive. Wal*mart carries a whole range of vacuums now (I think they even have one Dyson model) and hepa filters are almost a must have, so many of those will have them standard. Shampooers are hit and miss, but make sure you get one with a suction extractor so the dirty water doesn't stay in your carpets. If your son's skin gets dry or itchy try Aveno oatmeal baths. They lock in moisture and are specially ground to not block plumbing, there are generic brands out there too. If the skin problems are caused by an allergy to dust mites get plastic mattress and pillow covers, they zip up and cover the entire mattress preventing his movements in the bed from stirring up the allergen, and grab a bottle or two of that febreeze allergen reducer to spray on the carpet between shampoos, it really helps me. Good luck, hope your baby enjoys the clean carpets!
I just bought a dyson DC-17 and it is by far the best vaccume cleaner that I have ever used. The suction is unbelieveable and it pulls dirt and crud out of your carpet that you didn't even know existed. It's a little pricy, I got mine for $479 at sam's club, but it is worth it by far. It also has a 5 year warrenty. Go for it, you won't be disappointed.
Skip the shampooer it is a waste of money as you canot get the soapy residue back out of the carpet. For a vaccuum I would go with either a Dyson or the Bissell models both are $2-400.00 and do an excellent job. I think Kirby, Rainbow and Oreck are all seriously over rated.
Get the best, Miele.
Not the cheapest, but strong, long lasting, exellent HEPA filtration.
Get an Oreck. They are amazing vacuum cleaners. A little on the spendy side, but they will take out all the dust in your home. The infomercial for Orecks is on quite often so if you want more info just flip on your TV. Also, to eliminate dust and dander 24/7 you can get the Oreck XL air purifier--also with amazing results. It will make the air in your home feel much cleaner and purer in just minutes. You should really check it out. Carpet cleaners I don't know to much about. We have the Bissel quicksteamer and it seams to work pretty good. Hope this helps!
