Mildew problem?
Question:I don't know if it is mildew but it sure seems so. It smells mildewy in the bathtub (obvious place), kitchen sink, and even the washer! Why is it in so many place and how do I get rid of it?
Answers:
mildew is casued by water , i would think you have a small leak somewhere, heres how you test, turn off your water ,now go look and see if you meter is running ?
if so call a plumber
seems like it has something to do with your water pipes. First of all, do you clean out your drains frequently? It could be that. Use of baking soda and bleach can sweeten pipes (and use some liquid plumber if you have slow drains if cleaning them out doesn't work). Sometimes it's just the smell of the water and is stronger at different times of the year. In that case use a water softener and a water filter either at the sink or where the water comes in to your home.
Try pouring some bleach down the drains!
I dont know why it is every where, but my I had that problem once, and my boyfriends mother told me to use amonia to clean it, it stinks real bad, but u just have to air it our after cleaning, it really does clean that stuff up. I hope that was helpful.
Dear Lemonada...It sure is a problem in hot weather, but don't fear, this canbe easily taken care of by putting down the drains (once per month) one quarter cup of javex bleach!Let stand for 15 minutes then rinse with cold water for 2min.!
You have a leak or because of the air conditioner and heat coming in from somewhere. Cold and hot do not mix. It make stuff sweat. You need to find out where the heat is coming in and close it up with caulking. Get a dehumidifier. It works great. If you can't afford one then use LYSOL spray and soak it in the area. Also Clorox works well to to get rid of mildew.
As far as the drains I use Concentrated Lysol ever now and then.
Good luck.
