How do you get the burnt smell of popcorn out of the microwave?
Question:I accidently over cooked microwave popcorn in the office microwave, not only did it catch the bag on fire, but it's been two days and we can't get the smell out.Any ideas?
Answers:
Some of that smell will have permeated the exhaust fan and ductwork. Short of disassembling the innards, the best you can do is clean all six interior surfaces.
Eventually the smell will dissipate with normal use, but you might try opening the door and leaving a small fan running inside or point a larger one inside to increase the air flow through the nooks and crannies. Overnight or over the weekend should do it.
Put lemon juice in the mircowave and turn it on for about 5 minutes then wipe the microwave. Repeat till the smell goes away.
Put a something with a strong smell (lemons or limes). Cut them in half put in the microwave and nuke it for a minute or two.
take two peices of charcoal and put them in the micwave they will absorb the smell... but do not turn on the micwave with them in there!!
Baking soda is commonly used to remove the bad food smell from neglected refrigerators. I see no reason why it shouldn't work in the microwave too. But you might not want to nuke it...I'm sure what happens when you nuke it...I'll ask for you.
