Answers:
The quality is probably not very good. Next time you might want to purchase a little more expensive shirt; not necessarily designer, but a brand. There is a reason that branded apparel is not the cheapest out there...they have to live up to their name and can not risk alienating repeat customers by producing shoddy/shrinking goods.

maybe they're dry clean only or you've gained weight : (
Hum... have you been gaining weight?
Buy a Different Brand!
check the fabric that the shirt is made from.

plus the knit of the fabric could lead to more shrinkage upward
I had the same problem with my husbands wife beaters, I had bought a cheaper brand and they shrank horribly. he is a 2x and they were the size of a childs. went back to the Hanes
I'll bet you are still growing and don't even realize it. When you hang your shirts pull down on them when they are still wet and stretch out.
also you might want to make sure you buy pre-shrunk shirts. that way the size you buy is the size you keep!
