Dishwasher problem?

Question:Our diswasher is not cleaning highballs and other tumblers as well as it should, we place the in the right place in the machine but still they often have gritty residue inside them and somtimes even particles of food. Do you think it is because we wash cookware at the same time as glassware, cutlery and crockery? Or am I being a bit dim?

Answers:
It sounds like your water is not getting hot enough. The gritty residue is usually a sign that the cleaning agent didn't desolve (depending on what you use).

Put your machine on "heated dry". If the machine gets hot and dries the dishes then the heating element is ok.

Move on to looking at the water fill. It may not have enough water in the washer. Your fill switch (usually located on the front, left, inside the machine) might have something lodged under it cause the machine not fill to the proper water level. In this event, the machine wouldn't have enough water to pump and circulate it effectivly.

clean out filters etc, a good rinse aid, and rinse off plates etc of the woorst before putting then in!
You may also want to try a new brand of detergent. I read an article in Consumer Reports that said Electrosol (I think that's the name) and the Wal-Mart brand "Sam's Choice" performed best in their lab tests. I switched and found that my glassware seems a lot cleaner.
make sure you clean the filter regulary and ALWAYS rinse the dishes under the tap before putting them into the dishwasher it will prevent grit sticking to your glasses/ dishes or whatever you have in there .The little ducts in the flyers ( the things that fly around ) get trapped with food /grit and then you have this problem

You need to consider if this has only just started happening or have you always had this problem. Check the levels of salt and rinse aid, occasionally do an empty wash just to clean the machine, clean all filters etc. Perhaps do a special wash just for glassware.
Don't wash them with your dishes unless the other dishes are rinsed off real good, also make sure that you aren't overloading the dishwasher, there needs to be a little space around each dish for things to blow around. The food particles are getting sprayed on then when it goes through the dry cycle it basically bakes it on them. Do a good washing of them seperatly to get any residue off and then when it is time to wash everything together again don't place anything that is not rinsed off in there and also use a rinse aid.
No you are not a bit dim I have the same problem tried all the above answers but to no avail i have now give up and wash glasses by hand
it sounds like your dishwasher needs cleaning IE the pipes, empty the dishwasher of all dishes pour a cupful of white vinegar in the machine and run on a hot wash this will clean all the grease etc from inside and the pipes as well ,this is a lot cheaper than the products than you can buy.A check that the filter is clean.
