How much should I pay for house cleaning and better to pay by hr. or whole job?

Question:I have a friend of my daughters who will clean for me every other week. which encludes 2 small bedrooms living room and kitchen. Just light stuff dusting, mirror's and all floors and wiping down appliances and kitchen counters, and one small bathroom, I live in ohio. I was thinking 50.00 . sometimes I might have her do some extra cleaning would pay her extra for that. She has never really done this for any one besides herself of course and family. And i thought to pay for the whole job would be better. What do you folks think? Thanks

Answers:
Good for you for getting some help. I think $50 would be plenty. Little extras that are asked should not have to be paid for, but larger ones, like windows, or whole laundry (all the laundry, folding and putting away) should be paid more. I would also have her change the sheets though. Pay her for the whole cleaning job, not by the item/hour. That gets too complicated. You will also have to provide all the cleaning needs or products. She shouldn't have to bring anything. You can ask her if there are some products she likes better, and you can pick them up. Be straight with her too. If you don't like the way something's done, tell her. She's not a mind reader, and can't change what she doesn't know about. Also saying thank you and how much you appreciate the work done, goes a long way.

Hskp in my area goes for $75 to $140 per average house. (2-3 bedrooms)
I always pay by the job. because if you pay by the hour they can always stretch out the day and make more money. $50 sounds fair to me.
$50 to start is reasonable, she is not cleaning windows, yet. See how good a job is performed and raise her pay accordingly. I pay $50 every other week for an office cleaner, she does not do windows, 3 small offices, 2 baths, lobby and my front desk area.
The job should take her about 4 hours if done right, but 50 is low.I get 85 for a 2 bedroom 1 bath and I do it once weekly, and it needs it.I do load the dishwasher and run it also.No windows and no yard work. The hours is your key,see if it takes her 4 hours.Every room done right takes adleast 45 mins to an hour.Be fair and she will stick with you.I do.
A friend of mine paid $50.00 by the job and the cleaning lady still did extras as needed with no extra charge. My friend had kitchen, living room/dining room combo. 3 bedroom and l bath, even at 2 hours work that evened out to $25.00 per hour, good pay in my estimation.Call Merry Maids and get an esstimate, and go from there.
Fifty bucks sounds about right. I'm a self employed housekeeper, and the price sounds fair. I used to work for Merry maids, and the would charge arm ... . and your first born, needless to say, the cleaners weren't paid much tho. I charge by the whole job.
